Art Jakarta 2019: The Journey in Blue(s)
Conversion is the core focus of my artworks. Relying heavily on molecular reactions, I deliberately choose chemical compounds, kitchen supplies, and even sounds for my medium; this experiment itself may be considered as a standalone process, which I also intend to incorporate my idea of pseudo-science. My method of pouring salt, sodium chloride, and ammonia on top of the copper plates – each with its unique nature and traces of mineral – results in various shades of blue and verdigris. Every shade represents different emotions, nuances, and moods. The oxidation and the elemental exposure capture and lock in a frequency pattern, turning the whole process into an art object.
