Bandung Contemporary Art Awards #5

Marked by increasing presence of conceptual works, time and notion of being and ephemerality became a strong attribute of BaCAA #5. Deni ‘Ackay’ Ramdani’s “Nol Derajat (Degree Zero),” “Holding Breath” by Cynthia Delaney Suwito, and Etza Meisyara’s “How does it Feel to be a Refugee” went to win the awards—becoming the first event won in majority by female artists. The three works show a pattern of staged or scripted happening, autonomous notions, and compendium towards the empirical; framing cyclical ontologies toward material, being, workings of the world, and their flux in time.
